This paper is mainly about the origin and discoveries of electricity and magnetism. It is solely a summary of two natural phenomenon which have changed everything about our way of life and has ushered us into a remarkable new age. Firstly and most importantly, it is about the underlying idea of how magnetism and electricity have come about, also it outlines and maps out the development and discoveries of sources of electricity and magnetism by many inventors and the latter discoveries of mega-production. When I was a little boy, I used to wonder what causes lightning and thunder. When rain comes, I sometimes see intermittent lightning for a while before you can hear the sound of a spark which is like two short-circuited power cables. At school, we all learnt about matter, which consists of atoms and molecules and every atom has a nucleus and electron(s), inside the nucleus contains an equal number of protons and neutrons. The electrons revolve round the nucleus of the atom in order to keep it stable. Protons are positively charged particles, neutrons are neutral and electrons are negative charge particles. The nucleus is surrounded by shells; these are simply orbitals in which an electron(s) can be found. The number of orbitals depends on how many electrons the atom has. The electrons which are in the outer most orbitals have a tendency of being lost or shared by another atom in order to create a more stable configuration. Does Media and Music Affect Our Lives Free Essays

Critical Response The argument of whether or not music and media affect or influence our lives is a very complicated argument that divides people in their viewpoints. I personally believe that music and media will influence you only if you let it. Everything in life becomes only what you make of it and I think that some people in life hold music artists on a pedestal and go so far as to live their lives according to what they hear in their idols music. We will write a custom essay sample on Does Media and Music Affect Our Lives or any similar topic only for you Order Now A song that truly depicts this concept in a disturbing, but yet believable way is the song â€Å"Stan†, by Eminem. This songs tells the story of a young man named Stan, that believes himself to be Eminem’s biggest fan that he goes so far as to live his life in away that imitates what he believes is how Eminem lives his. He confesses his devotion to Eminem through letters and by going to concerts and standing outside in the cold for hours just to get an autograph, but things go really bad when Stan doesn’t get a reply from Eminem in a time span that he believes he should have. So Stan makes one last message for Eminem, which involves him being drunk, locking his girlfriend in the trunk and driving the car off a bridge. In the end Eminem writes Stan back with his concern of him trying to imitate his life, but then realizes what has happened. This song illustrates a perfect example of a crazed fan going to far. This guy is named Stan, which is Eminem’s â€Å"code† name, and in the music video he even dresses like him and goes so far as to make sure he has the same hairstyle and color. Everything else also is an attempt to imitate Eminem, from the pregnant girlfriend that he eventually ends up locking in the trunk and killing to have an absent father. But the thing is though is that everything he is trying to imitate in this song are not the real characteristics of Eminem, they are only based on songs Eminem has written, including one song where Eminem kills the mother of his baby and locks her in a trunk. I think that this song is a great example of how influential people can be, but I don’t think that all people are this influenced by music. I think that you are your own person and what you allow to influence you and affect you is your choice. This not only applies to music, but also to the media and news. Last week I had a very eye opening experience as a result to one of readings on the media and how much of the truth it tells and what it chooses to leave out. It made me ealize that sitting around and waiting for the truth to come to you, isn’t a logical approach and if you chose to live like that they you shouldn’t expect to receive the whole truth. The news and media also is very biased and can influence viewers to be the same. This has been very evident at least to me since 9/11, with how the media is so biased against Muslims and Arabs, and how they portray them all to be â€Å"the bad guys† and the ones to blame for the problems that we are enduring now. But what us even more upsetting is that some Americans are letting the media influence them into believing this biased view point and instead of getting the whole story by going and getting other news sources, people just go along with what the media tells them. Even though a lot of people believe that the media and music is responsible for influencing the way people live their lives and the choices they make, I believe that how it influences you and to what extent is your choice. If you hear a song on the radio that talks about killing someone, doesn’t mean that you should go out and do it, but you ultimately are the one that makes that decision, not the song. The same thing applies with the news, if you hear on the news that the Muslims are the ones to blame for all of our problems, it is your choice to agree or disagree with that statement and it is your responsibility to go and look at other sources if you want to get a real stance on the problem that is not biased. Changing and Traditional Venture Capitalists

Question: Discuss about the Changing and Traditional Venture Capitalists. Answer: Introduction Internet gurus in China are shifting the focal point of gravity in the worldwide economy and causing other global companies to think again essential presumptions about the source of innovation-led development. Didi Chauffeur is a market-driving auto and taxi - hailing application devoted driver benefit is getting a large portion of a million requests a day, only three months after its dispatch. It is impacted by the amount of a supplier of key aspects of a better than average or service, how outstanding such a feature is as well as the sum it may charge an association to change from one supplier then another. The fewer the suppliers and the more a company depends upon a supplier, the more supremacy a supplier embraces. There are many people in China who are willing to work as part time job, and as a Valet, its not only able to let them earn some extra cash, also can satisfy their driving experience. Therefore, this reduces the suppliers influence (Botsman, 2010). Customers influence This specifically deals with the capacity customers need to drive prices down. What number of buyers or customers influences it, as well as how significant every client is in addition to the amount it might take a client to switch from one company to another. The smaller and considerably more successful a customer list, the extra control it embraces. Risks of a Substitute Competitor substitutions can be used set up of a companys products or services pose a risk. For instance, in case clients depend on a company to offer a service, which may perhaps be replaced with a different apparatus or service or through playing out the task actually; therefore, this replacement is easy with insignificant application. Overall, a companys strength could be crippled (Botsman, Rogers, 2011). PEST Analysis PEST investigation is an outstanding expository device. Abortion Essays

Abortion Essays Abortion Essay Abortion Essay Most of people think that unexcused homicide is morally incorrect but that abortion is all right. With this essay am trying to say thats just the same. Why is right to kill a baby the day before its born and not the day after? The reason for most is that a fetus is not a human but it has 46 human chromosomes, and developing, so its becoming one. In cense its a human and no one has the right to decide an other humans life that is only gods job.Abortion is not a way out. Most mothers that abort think that thats a way to be un-pregnant but the fact of pregnancy in her is still there and more than ever. The baby is still part of the mother. Most women that abort think that abortion is the end of the problem but is the beginning of a bigger one. One side is the physical part. The body is prepared to have the baby, and suddenly, without a biological preview its taken away. That provokes a major internal disorder like bleedings and breast cancer. And the other side is the physiological part and maybe the most important one. The most common feeling on women that abort is guilt, in many cases that guilt into depression and in a big percentage that depression leads to suicide so then, why abort? Theres no reason.HIV is an other reason why mothers abort. What most people dont know is that not always HIV is transmitted to the baby. mothers should give a chance to the fetus to live. There are a very low percentage of babies that catch the diesis from their mothers. Yes you may say that is an invasion to the womens right and liberty, but, what about the babys right they have the right to live.An other reason for mothers that abort is money. But if its because of that there are other ways out like giving the baby in adoption. And the things mothers need during the pregnancy is free. The most common reason for abortion is violation but adoption is the way out if the family doesnt want the baby. Mothers should think first that half of the baby is still part of the mother and if the other half is not wanted, the mother should think in their half.If its for fear of the family do not abort, first order your priorities, a punishment worth a lot less than a life.Abortion is illegal and it means your baking the law and its very dangerous. They are done in places without sanity and there is no chance of proving that the doctor is a real one. Infections are every where and the chance of getting one is very high and if you catch it no one will respond, doctors wont be there to support and possibly will end in death. In conclusion id like to finish with a little reflection, to kill the fetus is to kill the baby, to kill the baby is to kill the child, to kill the child is to kill the teenager, to kill the teenager is to kill the adult, and to kill the adult is to kill the older person. For the full value of a person in every stage of development, killing the potential human is killing the actual one.

Bebop And Free Jazz And Fusion Music Essay

Bebop And Free Jazz And Fusion Music Essay To begin with, there are numerous variations between your types of awesome, hard-bop, bebop, free-jazz, and blend. While awesome may be the many soothing and comforting bebop appears to be probably the most elaborate using its inconsistent tempos. While free-jazz may be the less limited about the hand, hard-bop may be the many brassy trumpets, and flow part. Free-jazz displays no recently established guidelines, and no limitations, no type. Blend is just a mixture between stone and punk, quite simply, blend displays results, severe digital use, and synthesizers, to punk things in addition. Bebop changed jazz to innovative art-music from trendy party music. Within the 1940s, bebop appeared to have appeared a sudden all, however it had really been creating for quite some time. While an alto saxophonist, Art Pepper heard a bop saving, it totally overwhelmed him. The bebop piece's records swung, and are fast, technical elaborative. The faculties of bebop contain inconsistent tempos, arbitrary tunes, in addition to reharmonization replacement. Bebop set more focus on solos that are substantial. A saving by Dizzy Gillespie and His Band, Manteca, includes a several traits of bebop. Nevertheless, Manteca's tempos are exceptionally slow or slow. Within this saving, Gillespie produced the Afro Cuban design a percussionist of the conga, alongside Chano Pozo. Manteca includes yell and phenomenal trumpet solos - delicate although like words of the term "Manteca". The "Manteca" yelling in a variety of arbitrary areas of the saving is very humorous. Within the launch, numerous devices start its playing together, like metal, bongos and the bass. Particularly, the sound high-pitched and very interesting. Dizzy Gillespie's trumpet solos are extremely wonderful. Obviously, there's phone-and-reaction between other devices and the metal area. The piano-playing is very unnoticeable, however it performs lightly and leisurely within the history. The drums simply characterizes alongside Gillespieis trumpet mutes/violin playing and Parker sax playing. Parker performs in this lightening method in his alto sax, it is incredible. The tempos in Koko are inconsistent, that makes it particularly hard to check out. Koko's virtuosity seems uncontrolled. Actually, the tunes are innovative, although very unknown. Bass and the capture drum playing by Max Roach at 2: 07 is not typical since it performs in individual. Ge neral, Koko is definitely an enjoyable saving that displays plainly inconsistent looking tunes and quick tempos. Shifting along, Boplicity is just an awesome/westcoast style. Boplicity includes hardly any active contrasts or any blues affect. Unlike bebop, Boplicity is soothing and a lot more enjoyable. The solos are vibrant and somewhat significant. The tempos of an awesome that is typical /westcoast design are reasonable having a sedative perspective. The horn area in Boplicity is gentle and nimble, nothing like the hard-bop recording's brassiness. At:59, a distinction from fragile outfits of the horn goes to some tone that's a little less inadequate in the saxophone . Agreement and the tune of Boplicity is reasonably elaborate. The horn collection is large and wealthy in consistency. Boplicity displays an improvised audio, though its importance is about the preparations. AT-1:36, Davis trumpet solos with quality. Tune and the entire tone of Boplicity is beneficial and gentle, never unstable and intense. Boplicity may be them all's most comforting. Hard-bop is just a design that displays a tough- unstable and ridden audio from metal tools, like the horns and trumpets. Hard-bop faculties is just a distinction to cool west design that is cool. Hard-bop contains impacts from gospel and blues and places more emphasis. Unlike bebop's difficulty, hard-bop is very simple. Backstage Sally, a saving by the Jazz Messengers and also Art Blakey is just a hard-bop item that shows brassy sound and a powerful dance. The start begins like defeat - with horns playing as well as drums in a mix. The drums' character is extremely enthralling; particularly, drums are heavy-hitting. From hard-hitting to reasonable the drums contrasts. Unlike the tunes that are other, the drum within this hard-bop saving is particularly apparent. AT-1:03, tenor sax solos perform within an oral method. Trombone, the trumpet, along with other metal instruments perform within an method that is brassy, actually the back ground riffs are brassy that is apparent. Obviously , there's phone-and-reaction between your flow part and front-line devices. General, Backstage Sally is bluesy, lively, and seriously brassy. Consequently, hard-bop is powerful and mainly brassy -sense design. Similar to Backstage Sally, a tough bop item from the Charles Mingus Septet, Party Stop Mix is aswell. The start is mainly brassy using the horns. Boogie Stop Mix displayis 12-club blues in a playing method that is fast. The bass performs with ostinato riffs, while violin performs in a method. The horns play in a dissonant, although pointed noise; the horns will be different and distinction from appearing just like a bebop-design to hard-bop. The bass-line is specially mainly performed throughout. At 2:24, you will find high pitched solos in the drum. At 3:20, the alto saxophone allows a touching squeal out. Though, Backstage Sally does not be sounded nearly brassy as by this saving, it nevertheless the metal of display -like looks, particularly the start. Boogie Stop Mix is just a quick performed 12-club blues item with bass riffs and exemplary horns. Free-jazz type is dependant on splitting rules that were audio, in the place of establishing rules; of enjoying without limitations in Free-Jazz the impact is substantial. Unlike another styles jazz displays no type improvisations like this of New Orleans punk, and atonality, dissonance, in the event of blues abandonment. Free-Jazz includes abundant- excellent power, consistency, and playing. Two free that is remarkable jazz tracks are "World Evening" documented from the Ornette Coleman Fraction and "Cap and Mustache" documented from the Eric Dolphy Quintet. World Evening, the saving, is humorous, very lively, and fast paced. Coleman displays excitement and enthusiasm . Almost all the devices found in World Evening performs in not really move and a quick method -like. At:24, there's unaccompanied combined improvisation from trumpet and the sax, producing an oral noise. Trumpet and the alto sax appears to be speaking with one another like audio - in squall. More considerably, the alto trumpet and sax perform in wail-like, method that is strange. At:27, Cherry performs his trumpet with eccentricity and expressiveness. The flow part looks glistening particularly due to the continuous sharp ride cymbals produced in the drums. The cymbals are continual throughout creating an ostentatious- . AT-1:20, the drums stop enjoying to get a second, as the alto sax performs improvised solos with complement from low-walking bass-line. From 1:35 towards Civilization's end, the sharp ride cymbals from drums may re-emerge perform and persistently there exists a bass-line too. General, World is just a lively free and really lively jazz recording. Likewise, in Mustache and Cap, the speed is quick. In Mustache and Cap, numerous devices were used, including Dolphyis tight solos in the bass clarinet. Nevertheless, the violin was dumped within this recording. Feelings were found in Mustache and Cap to create up for the piano's lack. The feelings is effective at producing a sound noise. The improvisation is remarkable and very attractive. Dolphy displays creativity and expressiveness by having an apparent understanding of arrangements. Its impact on fresh punk and hard-bop is not indistinguishable within the saving. The speed is fairly move-like. The feelings enter having a strolling bass-line that seems humorous, at:47. The bass performs regularly through the saving in a structure that is continual. Drums and the feelings performs alongside one another in assistance. The feelings is substantial towards this recording's audio; the charm is absolutely added to by the feelings. AT-1:26, Dolphy shows odd solos on bass clarinet produci ng an unusual, wail-like, and enjoyable audio. The feelings are constant throughout because it appears once in awhile. The trumpet solos are comforting and moderate using the bass. The trumpet solos seem much like a these used in an awesome that is typical /punk westcoast design. Obviously, free-jazz doesn't use an audio type. For me, free-jazz seems fascinating and really unusual. Free-jazz artists appear to perform nonetheless they experience. Free-jazz displays uncomfortable playing for example, the wail-like sound, from numerous devices. Free-jazz plainly retains improvisation and creates awkward sounds. Unlike hard-bop, small metal sound is contained by free-jazz. Bitches Brew, the impressive saving, is definitely a perfect instance of the rock and punk blend. Miles Davis built a sizable group for this saving, that will be roughly a-12 gifted team. Blend design is not very indistinct from prior designs, due to the fact of electronics' use. Within this saving, there's evidently large utilization of results and digital devices having a minor decrease and mixture of punk things. A few of the digital devices used in this saving were electronic violin and the electronic bass guitar. Bitches Brew's start is very magnificent, particularly enjoying from percussionists and the electrical pianos. A rock like defeat and rhythm is utilized in the place of a move-like punk tempo. The drums perform in an energetic and cool way. The shaker creates the conga, in addition to an incredibly lively audio regularly throughout. At: Davisis trumpet playing, 41 includes business results, which creates an echo- . Our first thought after I first noticed this trumpet ma tch-audio is in a far more eccentrically method, although the fact that it seems like a battle horn coming simultaneously. This trumpet match-like impact creates a particularly appealing sound and is noisy. AT-1:31, virtually every device appears to collide together, making a much more remarkable audio; this crash one of the numerous devices appears to be a continuing design. AT-1:49, trumpets play in a short, parallel method. Some other results could be noticed within this saving, including the finger-snapping in the 2 of Davis:51 mark. In the 2, the bass ostinato is performed additionally:51 mark, like the ostinato found in the Footprints of Miles Davis Quintet. The ostinato creates a brief, strong and rhythmic expression. It's apparent the results profoundly improved the horn playing of Davis. The bass clarinet doesn't appear with achievement to solo, but rather performs simply because of its tone color. An interesting noise is generated by a mixture of critical results. There's a comprehensive solo part by Kilometers at 3:54, while additional devices may continuously increase with an increase of pressure to its maximum. Whilst the devices appear to perform altogether in a far more peaceful approach at this time, the devices consider an entirely distinct change. In Bitches Brew, the objective of Distance appears to tackle a approach, since percussionists were used. Bitches Brew creates a power sense, like this of the blend design attribute. General, these designs are extremely interesting. I'm most fascinated by free-jazz and blend. The looks of the free-jazz recording audio not uncommon, but uninteresting. Blend may be the most stirring. Probably the most soothing design to hear would not be warm /westcoast punk because of enjoying and its gentle tone. Probably the danceable and most powerful design could be hard-bop due to the hard-hitting on drums, bluesy guitar noise. These styles each are distinctive and unique in its approach.

The Way of Telling Lies and the Consequences Research Paper

The Way of Telling Lies and the Consequences - Research Paper Example This is a case comparable to that of sentencing a serial killer to death, so as to avoid their committing more killings or murders. From this example, the sentencing to death is equally causing death, but with the intent of putting an end to the deaths that the serial killer has caused, and those that they may continue to cause. Therefore, in avoiding the further deaths, a single death is justified, showing that in such a case, it is not wrongful to send such a person to death. This paper will discuss the causes and the reasons behind the lies made by different individuals, with the intent of showing that lies are a core part of the daily life of each individual, and a part that cannot be avoided – literally speaking. This will help shed more light on the issues and the challenges or circumstances that force people into making lies, as opposed to following the rightful path of telling the truth. From an analysis of the lies made by individuals, it is clear that the factors and the issues – often leading to the making of lies include solving sticky issues, avoiding trouble, protecting others from the truth that may hurt them and as an effort to make certain cases look better than they are. Other reasons for lying include lying so as to identify with certain groups, so as to act as examples for others, for example the case of a parent who tells children lies – that they were brilliant in school, so that the children can work harder. From this discussion, the writer will clearly show that lying or cheating – as wrongful as it may be – is a principal part of everyday life, and a key into effective living (Bakan 124-127; Brown & Levinson 168-174). Literature Review According to the BBC ethics guide, a website feature, lying is most probably the most common wrongful acts that are committed by individuals on a daily basis. The account explains that some researchers are quoted, as saying that lying is a fully unavoidable part of human nature. According to the account, most people would consent that lying is wrong, except in the case where it is committed for a good reason. Also, among the people that hold that lying is wrong, there is the problem that they shut the possibility of saving a certain course or situation, which may have been saved by making one lie. According to Sisela Bok (78), lying is a type of deception, but not all models of deception can qualify to be referred as lies. The account goes further to account that a lie has three basic characteristics, these including that it is made to communicate some information, that the liar plans to mislead, and that the liar is convinced that the information they offer is not right or truthful. However, the author goes further to account that, opposite to the belief of many, a lie does not have to offer false information, or get presented in a malicious manner – or with a wrongful intent. An example offered, is that of white lies, which are offered for good intentions. The definition of a lie, also includes, the case where an individual presents truthful information taking it to be a lie and in the cases of a known liar, who is not able to lie to others, because they know that they always tell lies. Therefore, from the diversity of the lies told, the source shows that lies form a core aspect of everyday

Work Perspectives PowerPoint Presentation Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Work Perspectives - PowerPoint Presentation Example Since, the leader is the one who makes the decision and major actions within a given organization; it is only applicable that he/she is adept with the right qualities and fundamental skills in order to strengthen good relationships with his/her people who will be his/her partner in achieving their goals. This paper will discuss a few Exhibits presented in the book of justice Administration and to explain each factors or concepts by giving examples. Leadership’s Bond of Trust Kokkelenberg (2010) compared the kind of leadership in the US 200 years ago with today. Before, the kind of leadership was autocratic which was based on the old military dogma â€Å"follow orders before complaining.† This implies that the employee needs to obey his or her boss instructions even though it is against his/her principles or will. Like for example: he/she follows his/her boss to falsify records for the fear to get fired. But, today leadership has transformed in many ways such leaders now tend to work with someone like for example getting the opinions and feedbacks of his/her subordinates in formulating decisions. And everyone at work has already right to voice out his/her opinion especially if the superior’s order is against his/her principles (Peak, 2010; Kooken, 1947). ... For instance, he/she was offered a big amount of money just to shut his/her mouth because he/she discovered anomalies. If this leader has integrity, without any hesitation he/she will standby for the truth no matter what happen. And in order to gain the trust of the employees a leader must be competent in everything he/she do. This means that he/she can make sound decisions, manage organization, make strategies and can interact with all the people involved in the business regardless of their position. An example showing competency of a leader is if he/she manifested the following actions: remains steady or thrive under pressure, using it to fuel productivity and efficiency; stays calm and maintain focus in turbulent, threatening, or emergency situations; makes rational decisions and continues to perform effectively; and provides direction in crisis situations through defusing potentially violent people or situations, calming others and removing them from harm. Another important chara cteristic that a leader must possess is being accountable and dependable. This means that he/she takes personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work, and achieves results with little oversight. A leader is said to be accountable and dependable if he/she manifested the following examples: shows up to work on time, and follows instructions, policies, and procedures; meets productivity standards, deadlines, and work schedule; stays focused on tasks in spite of distractions and interruptions; makes the best use of available time and resources; balances quality of work with meeting deadlines; does not make excuses for errors or problems; acknowledges and corrects mistakes; and

THE PLANT Sweet flag is a perennial, semi-aquatic and smelly plant, found in both temperate and sub temperate zones. It is up to 2m tall, aromatic, sword-shaped leaves and small, yellow/green flowers with branched rhizome. Plants very rarely flower or set fruit, but when they do, the flowers are 3-8 cm long, cylindrical in shape, greenish brown and covered in a multitude of rounded spikes. The fruits are small and berry-like, containing few seeds. CULTIVATION Its a hardy plant found growing from tropical to sub-tropical climates. Plenty of sunshine should be available to the plant during its growth and after harvesting for drying the rhizomes. This species comes up well in clayey loams, sandy loams and light alluvial soils of river banks. The land should be ploughed twice or thrice prior to the onset of rains. Acorus is propagated through rhizomes obtained from earlier planting. The best time for planting is the second fortnight of June. The river or canal bank where the land is saturated with water is very suitable for its growth. Timely weeding and hoeing to control the spread of weeds and to obtain good yield is essential. After each weeding the growing plants are pressed down into the soil. After 6-8 months, in December, the lower leaves turn yellow and dry indicating their maturity. The field should be partially dried only leaving sufficient moisture for uprooting the plant. The uprooted rhizome is cleaned after washing with water and cut into size and fibrous roots removed. The cut rhizomes are dried by spreading under the shade so that the amount of oil present in it is not harmed. TRADE AND COMMERCE Sweet flag has been an item of trade in many cultures for thousands of years. Sweet flag forms a useful adjunct to other tonics and stimulants. Its domestic demand is quite large. As the production is much less in India, the internal market itself is highly potential. Importers, buyers within the country, processors, traditional practitioners, Ayurvedic and Siddha drug manufacturers throng the markets for procurement of this plant every year.

Symbolism in the Loss of Light in Macbeth :: essays research papers

'Light' symbolizes truth, goodness, awareness, innocence and purity, everything linked to positive attributes. Light can represent anything Godly and saintly. ‘Darkness’ is the opposite of light. It symbolizes evil, unawareness, mischief, blindness and treachery. Firstly, both the murders of King Duncan and Banquo are committed at night, when the sun has set and darkness has fallen. Furthermore, when Lady Macbeth plots the murder of King Duncan she calls the â€Å"thick night† to â€Å"pall† â€Å"in the dunnest smoke of Hell† to hide her actions. She depends on the darkness to carry out the sinister deed. In addition, before and after the murder, there is much mention of nocturnal animals, for example, how the â€Å"owls shriek’d† and the â€Å"crickets cry†. Macbeth also tells the stars to â€Å"hide their fire†, which shows a reference to one of King Duncan’s lines when he mentions that â€Å"the signs of nobility are like stars†. Therefore Macbeth wants to hide the light when he does the deed. After the murder of King Duncan, Ross speaks to an old man about it, and of how the â€Å"dark Night strangles the traveling lamp†. He also mentions â€Å"Night’s predominance† over â€Å"the Day’s shame†. He probably thinks that the loss of Duncan equates to loss of everything ‘proper’, since he speaks of strange happenings, like horses eating their own kind. This displays a state of chaos and unawareness which is linked to darkness. Towards the end of Act 3 scene 2, Macbeth speaks of his plan to kill Banquo, and he then calls the â€Å"sealing Night (to) scarf up the tender eye of pitiful day†. He also mentions that the â€Å"Good things of day begin to droop and drowse / Whiles Night’s black agents to their preys do rouse†, which yet again makes a reference to nocturnal animals (preys). It also shows darkness taking over light, or in this case, Macbeth’s evil plot to get rid of the â€Å"worthy Banquo†.

Managerial Finance Closing Essay

The company announces that it is not expanding, what do you think will happen to the price of the bonds? What will happen to the price of the bonds if the company does expand? I believe if the company announces that it is not expanding then the prices of the bonds would not change, however if the company decides to expand then the prices of the bonds would increase due to the increase in the value of the company and the return would be greater. 5. If the company opts not to expand, what are the implications for the companies future borrowing needs? What are the implications if the company does expand? If the company decides not to expand, I do not believe that the implication for the companies future borrowing needs would differ too much from if they decided to expand. However one variation is if the company decides to expand they will receive more equity as shown above by the calculations. If the company has an increase of equity, they have the opportunity for an increase of borrowing, if they needed. However, if the company opts not to expand, they can still borrow in the future, however, their equity will remain the same, which would give them less variation in regards to borrowing. 6. Because of the bond covenant, the expansion would have to be financed with equity. How would it affect your answer if the expansion were financed with cash on hand instead of new equity? From my perspective, I do not see an issue with the expansion being financed with equity rather than â€Å"cash on hand†. I believe it would be an easier wait to keep track of the finances. I thought the primary reason some companies use equity to finance new projects is because they do not have the â€Å"cash on hand† to begin with, and although they have equity, it would be far too much trouble to convert it over to cash. So, they would rather use equity to finance.

Extra Tax on Fast Food Essay

Nowadays people always are overweight or obese. A big reason of this is unhealthy food like a Big Mac, Hamburger etc. Too much of any of those can cause serious health problems which a lot of people of the world today suffer from. The real problem is why are people making these choices? It’s simple, unhealthy food is cheaper than healthy food in many cases. Is it a good idea to introduce a fast food tax, or do unhealthy food observe to remain cheap and free of extra tax? To start things off, I will refer to this unhealthy food as â€Å"fast food†. One problem with fast foods is that they are low in satiation value. That is, people don’t tend to feel as full when they eat them, which can lead to overeating. Another problem is that unhealthy food tends to replace other, more nutritious foods. When people are snacking on chips and cookies, they are usually not loading up on fruits and vegetables. Already you can tell this is quite a problem, but it can be reduced to some degree if we raise the taxes on fast food. If the taxes are increased then people will be opted to buy healthier foods such as vegetables or other nutrient rich foods without added sugar or sodium. They will no longer be more expensive than the cheap, unhealthy, fast food. This in essence, will reduce the amount of unhealthy food that people will ingest. Another point is that the extra tax on fast food will saves lives. Heart disease is the second most common cause of death. Many lives could easily be saved. As well as saving lives, reducing obesity will also improve the quality of life. The argument against a extra tax on fast food is that those on low incomes are more likely to consume unhealthy foods, therefore this tax will increase inequality. However, if a tax on fast food saves lives, we should not avoid implementing it just because it is the poor who will mostly benefit. If we are really concerned about the impact on equality, the revenue from a fat tax can be targeted to the benefit of the poor. A increase in inequality need not occur from a fast food tax. Who is the government to tell people what to eat? If we want to eat salty and fatty foods then let us eat this. The whole point is people are still free to consume as much salty and fatty foods as they like. All in all it can be said that it is an unfair tax because fast food is bad for people who suffer obesity, shouldn’t mean that everyone who enjoys the quick, cheap service fast food offers. People who are in a hurry or people short on cash may find fast food an ideal service, but if it is taxed due to obesity, then it will also affect people who aren’t obese.

Differences Between Bacteria and Viruses

Differences Between Bacteria and Viruses Bacteria and viruses are both microscopic organisms that can cause disease in humans. While these microbes may have some characteristics in common, they are also very different. Bacteria are typically much larger than viruses and can be viewed under a light microscope. Viruses are about 1,000 times smaller than bacteria and are visible under an electron microscope. Bacteria are single-celled organisms that reproduce asexually independently of other organisms. Viruses require the aid of a living cell in order to reproduce. Where They Are Found Bacteria: Bacteria live almost anywhere including within other organisms, on other organisms, and on inorganic surfaces. They infect eukaryotic organisms such as animals, plants, and fungi. Some bacteria are considered to be extremophiles and can survive in extremely harsh environments such as hydrothermal vents and in the stomachs of animals and humans.Viruses: Much like bacteria, viruses can be found in almost any environment. They are pathogens that infect prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms including animals, plants, bacteria, and archaeans. Viruses that infect extremophiles such as archaeans have genetic adaptations that enable them to survive harsh environmental conditions (hydrothermal vents, sulphuric waters, etc.). Viruses can persist on surfaces and on objects we use every day for varying lengths of time (from seconds to years) depending on the type of virus. Bacterial and Viral Structure Bacteria: Bacteria are prokaryotic cells that display all of the characteristics of living organisms. Bacterial cells contain organelles and DNA that are immersed within the cytoplasm and surrounded by a cell wall. These organelles perform vital functions that enable bacteria to obtain energy from the environment and to reproduce.Viruses: Viruses are not considered cells but exist as particles of nucleic acid (DNA or RNA) encased within a protein shell. Some viruses have an additional membrane called an envelope that is composed of phospholipids and proteins obtained from the cell membrane of a previously infected host cell. This envelope helps the virus enter a new cell by fusion with the cells membrane and helps it exit by budding. non-enveloped viruses typically enter a cell by endocytosis and exit by exocytosis or cell lysis. Also known as virions, virus particles exist somewhere between living and non-living organisms. While they contain genetic material, they dont have a cell wa ll or organelles necessary for energy production and reproduction. Viruses rely solely on a host for replication. Size and Shape Bacteria: Bacteria can be found in a variety of shapes and sizes. Common bacterial cell shapes include cocci (spherical), bacilli (rod-shaped), spiral, and vibrio. Bacteria typically range in size from 200-1000 nanometers (a nanometer is 1 billionth of a meter) in diameter. The largest bacterial cells are visible with the naked eye. Considered the worlds largest bacteria, Thiomargarita namibiensis can reach up to 750,000 nanometers (0.75 millimeters) in diameter.Viruses: The size and shape of viruses are determined by the amount of nucleic acid and proteins they contain. Viruses typically have spherical (polyhedral), rod-shaped, or helically shaped capsids. Some viruses, such as bacteriophages, have complex shapes which include the addition of a protein tail attached to the capsid with tail fibers extending from the tail. Viruses are much smaller than bacteria. They generally range in size from 20-400 nanometers in diameter. The largest viruses known, the pandoraviruses, are about 10 00 nanometers or a full micrometer in size. How They Reproduce Bacteria: Bacteria commonly reproduce asexually by a process known as binary fission. In this process, a single cell replicates and divides into two identical daughter cells. Under proper conditions, bacteria can experience exponential growth.Viruses: Unlike bacteria, viruses can only replicate with the aid of a host cell. Since viruses dont have the organelles necessary for the reproduction of viral components, they must use the host cells organelles to replicate. In viral replication, the virus injects its genetic material (DNA or RNA) into a cell. Viral genes are replicated and provide the instructions for the building of viral components. Once the components are assembled and the newly formed viruses mature, they break open the cell and move on to infect other cells. Diseases Caused by Bacteria and Viruses Bacteria: While most bacteria are harmless and some are even beneficial to humans, other bacteria are capable of causing disease. Pathogenic bacteria that cause disease produce toxins that destroy cells. They can cause food poisoning and other serious illnesses including meningitis, pneumonia, and tuberculosis. Bacterial infections can be treated with antibiotics, which are very effective at killing bacteria. Due to the overuse of antibiotics however, some bacteria (E.coli and MRSA) have gained resistance to them. Some have even become known as superbugs as they have gained resistance to multiple antibiotics. Vaccines are also useful in preventing the spread of bacterial diseases. The best way to protect yourself from bacteria and other germs is to properly wash and dry your hands often.Viruses: Viruses are pathogens that cause a range of diseases including chickenpox, the flu, rabies, Ebola virus disease, Zika disease, and HIV/AIDS. Viruses can cause persistent infections in which t hey go dormant and can be reactivated at a later time. Some viruses can cause changes within host cells that result in the development of cancer. These cancer viruses are known to cause cancers such as liver cancer, cervical cancer, and Burkitts lymphoma. Antibiotics do not work against viruses. Treatment for viral infections typically involve medicines that treat the symptoms of an infection and not the virus itself. Antiviral drugs are used to treat some types of viral infections. Typically the hosts immune system is relied upon to fight off viruses. Vaccines can also be used to prevent viral infections. Differences Between Bacteria and Viruses Chart Bacteria Viruses Cell Type Prokaryotic Cells Acellular (not cells) Size 200-1000 nanometers 20-400 nanometers Structure Organelles and DNA within a cell wall DNA or RNA within a capsid, some have an envelope membrane Cells They Infect Animal, Plant, Fungi Animal, Plant, Protozoa, Fungi, Bacteria, Archaea Reproduction Binary fission Rely on host cell Examples E.coli, Salmonella, Listeria, Mycobacteria, Staphylococcus, Bacillus anthracis Influenza viruses, Chickenpox viruses, HIV, Polio virus, Ebola virus Diseases Caused Tuberculosis, Food poisoning, Flesh-eating disease, Meningococcal meningitis, Anthrax Chickenpox, polio, flu, measles, rabies, AIDS Treatment Antibiotics Antiviral drugs

Book Review Questions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Book Review Questions - Essay Example book draws conclusions based on Talmudic tradition in the creation of Elishas framework life, Steinberg wrote that the novel is developed from historical data .The data does not include any efforts of rigid conformity and literal confinement. The American Jewish literature is spirited and forms a classic historical explanation of ancient apostate Elisha Abuyah within the first century. An integral component of the story is a question relating to faith and loss of faith coupled with the rebellion and repression of the Jews to Palestine rule. Elisha is displayed as a leading scholar across Palestine who is elected into Sanhedrin; that is the top-most Jewish court for the land. However, two major tragedies awaken a series of doubt on Elishas mind about God (Steinberg 90). The doubt suppressed his faith. He journeyed into Antioch at Syria to start the conquest through Roman and Greek culture for fundamental truth and was declared an excommunicated and heretic from Jewish communities. The process of narrative illustrates Elisha having direct encounters of the force of the all-consuming culture in ancient Romans. Elisha also forced Rome’s power in choosing between loyalty to people or to own quest for truth. The people were rebelling against domination by the emperor. The Chosen narrates of a friendship after World War II between two Jewish boys who grow up in Brooklyn. The narrator and a protagonist are traditional Orthodox Jews. The character appears to have extreme dedication for scholarly work and humanitarianism. Other protagonists are brilliant and have photographic memory and passion in psychoanalysis. Over time, the story shows that the friendship developing between the two boys is marred with tensions arising from collision of cultures to each other. Modern American society also causes strain on the friendship (Potok 132). The literary themes in the book are inclusive of widespread references of senses like sight and pursuit of truth in the world. Reb

Financial Intermediaries and The Euro Markets Essay

Financial Intermediaries and The Euro Markets - Essay Example According to the research findings the financial environment therefore directly or indirectly influence the financial system of any country. Thus the need for financial intermediaries to act as the middlemen in this transactions is important. Therefore for investors to get profit and the lenders to be able to give away money to borrowers the need for financial markets are vital. Financial intermediaries can be defined as an institution that acts as the middlemen between the investors and the firms. These financial institutions include chartered banks, insurance companies, investment dealers, mutual funds, and pension funds. Liquidity has been the basis of these kind of transactions between the parties either the borrowers or the investors. It can be defined as the ease with which a given asset can be changed into cash or by getting access to credit. Thus the main concept of liquidity is to obtain cash. Liquidity is often determined by two factors that measure how easy it is to change it into cash or make it possible for borrowers to obtain the cash. The policy interest rates and the structure of the interest rates paid by the borrowers are often the indicators of liquidity. These rates often influence one either to be motivated to borrow or leave the money with the banks. Most of the world banks are involved in market liquidity which is the rate at which a borrower is able to quickly buy or sell the financial assets at a given time without changing the market price. (Francis 2008). In the new world there are financial institutions that stand in between parties in any kind of transaction that involve cash. Thus Financial Intermediaries are firms that buy or borrow from consumers or savers and later lend these services or would be cash to other companies or persons that might need resources for investment. Therefore there are different kinds of investments. The insurance policies, buying of stocks, bonds, government treasuries, and mutual funds. All these investm ents either involve the public investor or the government and the company. Investments that involve a company or the government selling to the public are easily convertible to cash since the purpose of the public is to get cash for their daily living. Moreover, the investments by the government are more liquid than those in the company (Levine 1993). Mutual funds can easily be changed to cash than all the others while the others. Insurance policies since they are the contract or an agreement between the insurer and the insured are difficult to change into cash since one can only pay the amount after a certain incident happens that is often unkown when it will occur. The the government treasuries and mutual funds are just agreements that do not involve cash and thus take time to be converted to cash and the remaining are easily converted in this order: Stocks, and bonds. Therefore in the order of their liquidity they would be: mutual funds as the most liquid asset, then the governmen t treasuries, bonds, stock, and then the insurance pilies as the least liquid asset. Conclusion Financial intermediaries therefore play a vital role in the national economy of any country. In most economies people with more money save them in banks that makes it possible for those with little money to borrow so that they would be able to use them either to run a business or other functions depending on their need. Thus a financial institution such as banks facilitate the flow of funds from savers to borrowers. The financial institutions profit from the spread between the amount they pay for funds and the
